Djokovic Dominates Dimitrov to Reach Miami Open Final, Eyes 100th Title
Novak Djokovic secured a commanding victory over Grigor Dimitrov to advance to his first Miami Open final since 2016, putting himself just one win away from his 100th career ATP title.
The Serbian superstar will face 19-year-old Jakub Mensik in Sunday’s final after the unseeded Czech stunned American Taylor Fritz in a hard-fought semi-final.
Dimitrov initially broke Djokovic’s serve in the opening game, but the world number five quickly responded, breaking back and winning five consecutive games to take the first set.
The six-time Miami Open champion dominated the second set, capitalizing on a slow start from Dimitrov to seal a 6-2, 6-3 victory.
Reflecting on his milestone chase, Djokovic said:
“Ever since I won my 99th [title] at the Paris Olympics, I’ve been focused on reaching 100. This week, I’ve been playing at a level that gives me a real chance.”
At 37 years and 10 months, Djokovic is now the oldest ATP Masters 1000 finalist in history, surpassing his own semi-final record. His opponent, Mensik, is at the opposite end of his career, reaching his first Masters final at just 19.
The Czech teenager credited his surprising win over Fritz to a pre-match handshake with football legend Lionel Messi, joking that he didn’t wash his hand afterward for luck.
Djokovic remains the favorite to claim his seventh Miami Open title, but Mensik’s fearless rise sets the stage for a compelling final showdown.
