Cheating South African Cop Gets Double Life Sentence for Killing Husband, Friend
A South African policewoman, Ntombizodwa Gertrude Ntinga, has been sentenced to double life imprisonment for orchestrating the brutal murders of her husband, a fellow police officer, and a family friend.
The KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) High Court in Mtubatuba handed down the sentence after finding Ntinga guilty of the 2023 killings of Warrant Officer Nkosinathi Protus Ntinga, 49, and SAPS Administrative Clerk Mpendulo Mdluli, 34.
The court also sentenced her accomplice, 22-year-old Samkelo Ncamisa Mpanza, to 25 years in prison for his role in the crimes.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), Ntinga, a SAPS sergeant, was involved in an extramarital affair with a man identified as “Khoza.”
She claimed to Khoza that her husband was physically abusive, and together, they plotted his murder. They enlisted Mpanza’s help and armed themselves with two firearms to carry out the crime.
On August 1, 2023, the assailants rented a vehicle and stormed Ntinga’s home in KwaMbonambi, where both her husband and Mdluli were present.
At gunpoint, they tied the victims with cable ties, seized their cell phones and service pistols, and abducted them in Mdluli’s vehicle. They drove to a nearby sugarcane field, where Ntinga was fatally shot, while Mdluli was severely beaten and left for dead.
Ntinga stayed behind and later sought help from neighbors to cover her tracks. Authorities later discovered Ntinga’s body near Mdluli’s abandoned car. Mdluli, still alive, was found on the roadside but succumbed to his injuries days later in a Durban hospital.
Investigators built a strong case using digital forensic evidence, vehicle tracker data, and testimonies from key witnesses. Victim impact statements from grieving family members revealed deep sorrow, with Ntinga’s mother expressing disbelief that her son’s wife had masterminded his death. Mdluli’s widow, married just two months before his murder, described her devastation.
The court sentenced Ntinga to two life terms for the murders, 15 years for armed robbery, and additional sentences for kidnapping. Mpanza received 25 years for each murder, 14 years for armed robbery, and four years for kidnapping, with an effective sentence of 25 years. Both were declared unfit to own firearms.
The NPA welcomed the convictions, reaffirming its commitment to justice and the fight against violent crime.
