The decision follows a preliminary investigation into the brutal killing of travelers in Uromi, Esan North East LGA, on March 27, 2025.

According to Secretary to the State Government, Musa Ikhilor, the vigilante group involved was unauthorized and not affiliated with the state’s security framework.

Authorities have arrested 14 suspects, and a special police team has been deployed to track down others. The Edo State Government reaffirmed its commitment to protecting citizens’ constitutional rights and is in contact with victims’ families, community leaders, and the Kano State Government, as most of the victims were from Kano.

The government urged calm and assured that justice would be served transparently and efficiently.
