“Ex-WNBA Star Chiney Ogwumike Backs JuJu to Rebound from ACL Tear”
Former WNBA star Chiney Ogwumike is confident that USC basketball sensation JuJu Watkins will make a strong comeback following her devastating ACL tear.
Watkins, 19, suffered the injury during USC’s NCAA tournament matchup against Mississippi State, raising concerns about how it might impact her promising career.
However, Ogwumike told TMZ Sports that she has no doubt Watkins will bounce back.
“JuJu is the heart and soul of this city,” Ogwumike said at LAX. “She’s built different.”
The two-time WNBA All-Star cited Breanna Stewart and Paige Bueckers as examples of athletes who have overcome major injuries and returned stronger.
Stewart tore her Achilles early in her career but went on to win championships and MVP honors, while Bueckers successfully recovered from a serious knee injury.
Ogwumike also emphasized that Watkins has a strong support system around her and is confident that this setback is just a minor hurdle in her career.
“She’s got the team,” Ogwumike said. “She’ll be straight.”
