On March 18, President Tinubu suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy Ngozi Odu, and the state House of Assembly for six months, citing the ongoing political crisis in the oil-rich state. Speaking on Channels Television on March 31, Momodu expressed disappointment, stating that Tinubu’s actions contradict his pro-democracy background.

“I think it is very unfortunate. I know President Tinubu well—we were together in exile fighting for democracy. It is embarrassing to see a pro-democracy leader oversee what is worse than dictatorship,” Momodu said.

He urged the President to uphold democratic principles, warning that those advising him might be misleading him.

“I’m pleading with President Tinubu—please don’t kill democracy in Nigeria. People are deceiving him, and he should not allow it. The only thing that can guarantee a second term is good governance, not intimidation,” he added.

Momodu also accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of suppressing opposition voices, warning Tinubu to “watch his back” and avoid actions that could harm his administration’s credibility.
