Bayelsa Court Blocks Pro-Wike Rally, Issues Interim Order

A High Court in Bayelsa State has issued an interim order restraining supporters of Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike from holding a planned rally in Yenagoa.

The rally, organized by the NEW Associates group to show solidarity for Wike, was scheduled for April 12, 2025. However, Justice I.A. Uzakah granted the interim injunction following a suit filed by Bayelsa State Attorney General, Biriyai Dambo (SAN).

The order specifically names George Turnah, the rally’s lead convener, and Minister Wike as respondents, alongside the Nigeria Police Force, the Inspector-General of Police, and the Bayelsa State Commissioner of Police.

The court ruled that no political assembly, rally, or gathering in support of Wike should take place in the state until a Motion on Notice for an Interlocutory Injunction is heard. The hearing is set for April 11, 2025.
