De Bruyne to Leave Manchester City at the end of the Season

Kevin De Bruyne has announced that he will be leaving Manchester City at the end of the current season, marking the end of a remarkable decade at the club.

In a heartfelt post on social media, the club’s captain revealed, “These will be my final months as a Manchester City player.”

De Bruyne, 33, joined City in 2015 from Wolfsburg for a then-club record fee of £54.5m and has since become one of the Premier League’s greatest players.

Over 413 appearances, he has scored 106 goals and helped City secure an impressive array of trophies, including six Premier League titles, two FA Cups, five Carabao Cups, and the coveted Champions League.

His contributions were pivotal in City’s historic treble-winning season under Pep Guardiola in 2022/23.

Guardiola expressed his sadness at De Bruyne’s departure, calling him “one of the greatest” players in the history of the English game.

Manchester City also praised De Bruyne, describing him as a “global icon of the game” and announcing plans to honor him with a fitting tribute and farewell.

In his departure statement, De Bruyne reflected on his incredible journey, thanking the fans and the city that embraced him.

“Football led me to all of you – and to this city. Chasing my dream, not knowing this period would change my life. This city, This club. These people… gave me everything. I had no choice but to give everything back! And guess what – we won everything,” he wrote.

De Bruyne’s contract expires at the end of June, right in the midst of the summer’s Club World Cup. It remains uncertain whether his deal will be extended to allow him to participate in the competition before officially departing.
