Inter Milan take first-leg lead over Bayern

Inter Milan Snatch Late Win Over Bayern to Take Control of Champions League Quarter-Final

Inter Milan struck late to seal a dramatic 2-1 victory over Bayern Munich in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final, leaving the Serie A leaders in a commanding position ahead of the return leg in Milan.

The clash at the Allianz Arena began with Bayern dominating possession and creating the early chances. England captain Harry Kane came closest for the hosts, rattling the post with a curling effort during a dominant opening spell.

But despite their early control, Bayern were stunned in the 38th minute when Inter netted with their first shot on target.

The breakthrough came after a brilliant team move. Marcus Thuram’s inventive backheel flick found Lautaro Martínez in stride, and the Argentine striker powered a shot with the outside of his boot into the roof of the net, silencing the home crowd.

Bayern looked destined for a frustrating night until veteran forward Thomas Müller, playing in one of his final games for the club after announcing his departure this summer, brought the hosts level in the 85th minute.

Müller latched onto Konrad Laimer’s low cross and finished from close range, appearing to rescue a draw.

However, Inter had other plans. Just three minutes later, the Italians launched a swift counterattack.

Carlos Augusto surged down the left and squared the ball to Davide Frattesi, who slotted home an 88th-minute winner to restore Inter’s lead and cap off a thrilling night.

The loss marked the end of Bayern’s remarkable 22-match unbeaten home run in the Champions League, a streak that dated back to 2021.

Now firmly in control of the tie, Inter will welcome Bayern to the San Siro on April 16 for the second leg. The winner will move on to face either Barcelona or Borussia Dortmund in the semi-finals.

For Inter, who have conceded just three goals in 11 Champions League matches this season, the result is a major step forward in their pursuit of European glory.
