Police Inspector Dies After Watching Arsenal Defeat Real Madrid in Calabar
An Inspector of Police in Nigeria, Stephen Enang—a passionate supporter of Arsenal Football Club—tragically passed away after collapsing shortly following Arsenal’s 3-0 victory over Real Madrid on Tuesday, April 8.

According to eyewitnesses, Enang, a native of Ekori in Yakurr Local Government Area of Cross River State and an officer attached to the Akim Police Division in Calabar, was watching the high-stakes match at a popular viewing centre on Abang-Asang Street.
“He was in high spirits—healthy, energetic, and cheering loudly with every Arsenal goal,” one witness recounted. “When Arsenal scored the first, second, and third goals, he leapt up each time, completely overjoyed.
But after the final whistle, while others began to leave, we noticed he remained seated. That’s when we realized something was terribly wrong.”
Enang had slumped in his seat and was unresponsive. He was immediately rushed to the Police Hospital in Akim, where medical staff tried to revive him, but sadly, he was pronounced dead.
The sudden passing has left his friends, colleagues, and family in shock and mourning. Enang was known as a lively, dedicated officer and football enthusiast.
As of the time of reporting, the Akwa Ibom State Police Command has not yet issued an official statement on the incident.
