Kebbi Varsity Student Rescued by Security Operatives

Security operatives have successfully rescued Augustine Madubiya, a 400-level student of the Federal University Birnin Kebbi, who was abducted from his off-campus residence.

The operation was carried out by police personnel who tracked the kidnappers to the Dakingari forest in Suru Local Government Area of Kebbi State.

The student was rescued without the payment of any ransom, according to the Commissioner of Police, Sani Bello. He explained that the abductors were forced to abandon their victim due to mounting pressure from the police.

The Director of Security at the Cabinet Office, Abdulrahman Zagga, confirmed the development on Thursday, April 10, 2025. He added that the student was immediately taken for a medical check-up to ensure his well-being.

Kebbi State Deputy Governor, Senator Umar Tafida, visited the site of the abduction alongside Commissioner of Police Sani Bello and the university’s Vice Chancellor, Professor Zaiyan Muhammad.

During the visit, the Deputy Governor emphasized the state government’s unwavering commitment to the safety and security of students across all tertiary institutions in Kebbi.

Meanwhile, Vice Chancellor Zaiyan Muhammad highlighted the urgent need to improve hostel facilities, noting that limited on-campus accommodation has forced many students to live off-campus, making them more vulnerable.

He appealed to public-spirited individuals and organizations to support the university in addressing the accommodation shortfall.

Both the police and state government officials assured that enhanced security measures would be put in place to safeguard students and university facilities.
