Eric Dane Reveals ALS Diagnosis
Eric Dane has revealed he’s been diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), a rare and progressive neurological disease that affects muscle control.

In a statement to PEOPLE, the 52-year-old actor shared, “I have been diagnosed with ALS. I am grateful to have my loving family by my side as we navigate this next chapter.”
Dane is married to actress Rebecca Gayheart, and the couple share two daughters — Billie Beatrice, 15, and Georgia Geraldine, 13.
Despite the life-altering diagnosis, Dane says he’s still able to work and is preparing to return to the set of Euphoria — where he plays Cal Jacobs — as production on season 3 begins April 14.
“I feel fortunate that I am able to continue working and am looking forward to returning to set next week,” he added. “I kindly ask that you give my family and I privacy during this time.”
ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, is a progressive condition that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord, leading to the gradual loss of muscle function.
Early symptoms may include limb weakness, muscle twitching, or slurred speech, eventually advancing to total paralysis.
According to the Muscular Dystrophy Association, while most patients live three to five years after diagnosis, some can live significantly longer. Currently, there is no known cure.
