The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested a 24-year-old man, Ubong Friday Benson, for allegedly threatening to kill his father in Ikot Imoh village.
The state police spokesperson, DSP Timfon John, disclosed in a statement on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, that officers responded promptly to a distress call from the victim, who reported that his son had barricaded himself and was threatening to stab him with a dagger.
He also alleged that Ubong had previously threatened to shoot him with a locally made pistol he usually kept hidden in a nearby bush.
A police team was immediately deployed to the scene, where the suspect was arrested without incident.
During interrogation, Ubong admitted to owning the weapon and led officers to the location where the pistol was recovered.
Further search of his belongings uncovered additional dangerous items, including a dagger, an iron file, a long chisel, a hammer, and a penknife.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Ubong may have assaulted other members of the community before his arrest, although only his father has formally filed a complaint so far.
