Akpabio: Lawmakers Not Elected to Fight Executive

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has emphasized that lawmakers are not elected to wage battles with the Executive arm of government, but rather to collaborate on initiatives that advance national development.
In a forthcoming documentary commemorating President Bola Tinubu’s two years in office, Akpabio underscored the importance of unity and purpose among elected officials.
“When you’re voted into the National Assembly — whether it’s the Senate or the House of Representatives — your constituents don’t hand you boxing gloves.
This isn’t a boxing match,” he said. “You are there to work in a bipartisan manner for the good of Nigeria.”
He praised the cordial relationship between the legislature and the Executive over the past two years, attributing it to a mutual commitment to the country’s progress.
“If you expend all your energy fighting the Executive, then who is left to do the work for Nigeria?” he added, stressing that cooperation, not conflict, is what delivers results for the people.
