Gunnar Henderson ‘Definitely’ Wants to Play for Team USA in WBC

If Team USA wants Gunnar Henderson in its infield for the 2026 World Baseball Classic, the Orioles star is more than ready to answer the call.
In an exclusive chat with TMZ Sports on Tuesday, the Baltimore shortstop revealed that representing the Red, White, and Blue is one of his key career aspirations.
“Anytime you get the chance to play for your country, it’s really special,” Henderson said. “That’s definitely something I’m looking forward to and hope to do in the future.”

Though Team USA has several strong options at shortstop—including Trea Turner, Bobby Witt Jr., and Mookie Betts—Henderson’s recent performance makes him a strong contender for the role.
Since debuting with the Orioles in 2022, the 23-year-old has impressed with a .266 batting average, 76 home runs, 205 RBIs, and 35 stolen bases heading into Tuesday’s game against the Brewers.
This season has been a bit of a struggle for Henderson as he works back from injury, mirroring the challenges faced by the Orioles as a whole in 2025. Still, the star player remains optimistic. “Just stick with us,” he told fans.
“I know it’s tough right now, but we’re going to turn things around. It’s going to be a great ride by the end of the year.”
With the help of his VKTRY Insoles aiding his recovery, Henderson expects to be back at full strength soon.
If that happens, there’s little doubt he’ll be competing alongside Paul Skenes, Aaron Judge, and other top talents for gold at the WBC next March.
