‘Madden’ Actor Quits Over N-Word, Nudity Claims; Amazon Denies Allegations

A supporting actor in the upcoming Madden biopic has exited the production just two weeks in, reportedly over the use of the N-word and a scene involving full-frontal nudity.
However, sources close to Amazon Studios are pushing back, claiming the situation is being misrepresented.
According to several cast and crew members who spoke with TMZ, the actor walked off set after director David O. Russell allegedly said the N-word during an impromptu rehearsal for a monologue.
The moment reportedly caused visible discomfort among others present, and production was halted early that day.
However, Amazon insiders claim it was actually the actor who first suggested including the N-word during a private creative discussion, and emphasize that the slur was never uttered while filming.
They’re unsure what ultimately led to the actor’s walkout, but insist Russell did not use the word on set.
The controversy didn’t stop there. Sources say the day before the incident, the same actor objected to a nude locker room scene. Russell allegedly responded poorly, described by some as “unprofessional.”
Studio representatives, however, say an intimacy coordinator was brought in to ease concerns, offering alternative scene arrangements.
When the actor remained uncomfortable, Russell allegedly told him—calmly—that he didn’t have to appear in the shot.
They stress that no one was blindsided by the nudity, which had been clearly outlined in advance.
Amazon has kept the door open for the actor’s possible return, stating that discussions are ongoing.
Meanwhile, behind-the-scenes friction reportedly continues. Insiders describe the production as “tense,” partly due to the immersive acting styles of Nicolas Cage (as John Madden) and Christian Bale (as Al Davis), who are said to remain deeply in character off-camera as well.
Still, the studio claims both actors have maintained professional conduct.
Madden, directed by David O. Russell, is still in production and has yet to set an official release date.
