Seven Arrested in Akwa Ibom Burglary Syndicate Crackdown

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has successfully dismantled a notorious burglary syndicate, arresting seven suspects connected to multiple thefts across the region.
In a statement released on Thursday, May 22, 2025, the police spokesperson, DSP Timfon John, revealed that among the recovered items were a stolen generator, iron rods, solar batteries, nails, and binding wires.
The operation began on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, at around 8 a.m., when police acting on credible intelligence apprehended Asuquo Archibong Effiong, a male suspect originally from Esuk Mba Village in Bakassi LGA, Cross River State, but currently residing in Ibiaku Ishiet Village, Uruan LGA.
During interrogation, Effiong admitted to participating in burglaries targeting homes in Ifa Atai Village, Uyo LGA, along with his accomplices identified only as Umoh and Twancy.
He also confessed to being a member of the Mafia secret cult and provided the names of other cult members.

Further investigations led to the arrest of six more suspects believed to be receivers of stolen goods:
Augustine Ita Essien, Sadam Musa, Usman Haruna, Umar Abubakar, Murtiala Muhammed, and Emmanuel Sunday, all residing in Ring Road III, Uyo.
Searches of their homes resulted in the recovery of the stolen generator, iron rods, eight solar batteries, and other stolen materials.
The police command confirmed that investigations are ongoing, with efforts underway to apprehend additional suspects.
They assured the public of continued commitment to safeguarding lives and property and promised to update on further developments.
