2027: APC Backs Tinubu as Atiku, Obi Mull Alliance

At the recent APC National Policy and Development Summit held at the State House Banquet Hall in Abuja, Bola Tinubu secured the party’s formal endorsement for the 2027 presidential race.
Confident about his party’s growing influence, Tinubu expressed optimism that more opposition members would defect to the APC ahead of the general elections.
Addressing concerns about one-party dominance, he stated, “I am expecting more to come; that is the game. We are in a constitutional democracy that guarantees freedom of movement and freedom of association.”
Several high-profile defections have recently rocked opposition parties, including Senators Adamu Aliero, Yahaya Abdullahi, and Garba Maidoki, as well as Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and his predecessor Ifeanyi Okowa, all leaving the PDP for the APC.
These moves have left the PDP, Labour Party, and NNPP struggling to maintain unity and control, especially in the South-South and South-East regions.
Despite efforts by the PDP’s National Working Committee (NWC), Board of Trustees (BoT), National Executive Council (NEC), and Governors Forum, internal divisions persist.
Sources within the APC reveal that four governors—Umo Eno (Akwa Ibom), Peter Mbah (Enugu), Abba Yusuf (Kano), and Siminalayi Fubara (Rivers)—are close to defecting to the ruling party.
Governor Umo Eno reportedly informed his Executive Council on Thursday of his imminent defection, urging political appointees to either join him or resign.
According to an insider, Eno declared, “Anybody who claims he is not aware of my intention to leave PDP is still living in the 18th century. I will still control the PDP structure. Anyone who refuses to move with me should step aside.”
Eno reportedly praised President Tinubu’s leadership style as a key motivation for his planned switch.
While the Akwa Ibom PDP Chairman Aniekan Akpan was unavailable for comment, APC Media Network Director Iniobong John confirmed that preparations for Eno’s defection are complete, though no official date has been set.
Meanwhile, opposition leaders loyal to Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi are reportedly holding intensified closed-door talks in response to the APC’s growing momentum.
A top PDP insider told The PUNCH that the two camps plan to meet soon to resolve outstanding issues and agree on a consensus presidential candidate capable of mounting a strong challenge to Tinubu in 2027.
