Man United to Cut 200 Jobs After Europa Loss to Spurs

Manchester United are preparing to inform up to 200 staff members that they may lose their jobs this week, following the club’s disappointing 1–0 loss to Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League final, according to reports by The Daily Mail and The Telegraph.
The redundancies are part of wider cost-cutting measures at the club, which has already seen reductions in its global scouting team—currently at 80—expected to be trimmed further. The move follows a pattern of streamlining operations amid financial pressures.
One of the most notable potential layoffs includes Marie Marron, a veteran employee who has served the club for 47 years.
Marron began as a personal assistant to then-club secretary Ken Merrett and later became a vital figure in managing first-team logistics and liaising with UEFA, the Premier League, and the FA.
The club’s financial strain predates the Europa League final loss.
Co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe, who acquired a minority stake last year, has been enforcing deep spending cuts.
In March, Ratcliffe stated that without these measures, United could have “run out of money at Christmas.”
United’s failure to secure Champions League qualification and their underwhelming domestic campaign are projected to cost the club over £150 million in lost revenue from prize money, broadcasting deals, ticket sales, and performance-related penalties.
