Ondo Court Bans Man from Sleeping at Ex-Wife’s Family Home

An Akure Magistrate’s Court has issued a restraining order against a man, Mr. Ademola Adesina, prohibiting him from loitering or spending the night at the family home of his estranged wife, Mrs. Iyabo Omoleye.
The order followed a petition filed by Omoleye, who accused Adesina of abandoning his parental duties, emotional abuse, and harassment.
According to her, Adesina deserted their family for more than six months, only to resurface abruptly and begin demanding access to the children—despite providing no support during his absence.
Omoleye further claimed Adesina had refused to contribute to the children’s upkeep, reportedly justifying his neglect by saying he gained nothing from doing so.
She alleged that since his return, he had been frequently loitering around her family’s residence, causing distress for her and the children.
In his defense, Adesina contended that their marriage had been peaceful until he was imprisoned.
Upon his release, he claimed to have discovered that Omoleye was three months pregnant—an alleged pregnancy she later terminated—leading him to suspect infidelity.
He also accused her of humiliating him by ridiculing his sexual performance and comparing him to other men.
Adesina told the court he was now homeless and jobless, alleging that his wife took over their apartment and evicted him, leaving him with no choice but to sleep outside her family’s home.
He expressed frustration that his children no longer recognized him, claiming they had been manipulated against him.
Magistrate A.E. Akeredolu, in her ruling, advised Adesina to prioritize rebuilding his life and finding a stable source of income.
“The respondent is hereby restrained from sleeping or loitering at the premises of the wife’s family house,” the court ruled.
She warned that any violation of the order would attract strict legal consequences.
The court also noted that issues relating to child custody and maintenance would be addressed at the next hearing, scheduled for July 1.
