Suspected Fraudster Caught with Fake CFA Notes at Minna Hajj Camp

The Niger State Police Command has arrested a 27-year-old man, Nda Baba Mohammed, for possessing counterfeit West African CFA franc notes at the Hajj camp in Minna.
According to the command’s spokesperson, SP Wasiu Abiodun, the suspect is believed to be part of a criminal syndicate that targets unsuspecting Hajj pilgrims by selling them fake foreign currencies.
Acting on credible intelligence, police operatives from the Bosso Division apprehended the suspect on May 18, 2025, at approximately 11:45 a.m. at the Tudun-Fulani Hajj Camp in Bosso, Minna.
During the arrest, officers found him in possession of 40,000 CFA francs suspected to be counterfeit.
During interrogation, Mohammed reportedly confessed that he stole the fake currency from the residence of a man identified simply as Mohammed in Kwara State, where he had previously worked on a farm.
The suspect is currently in custody while investigations continue to trace the source and extent of the counterfeit operation.
Police authorities confirmed that Mohammed will be charged to court upon the conclusion of the probe.
