20 Arrested for Hacking 2025 UTME Results

At least 20 individuals have been apprehended by the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigerian Police Force for allegedly hacking into the computer-based testing (CBT) systems used in the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
The suspects are believed to be part of a broader criminal network involving over 100 members, which specializes in breaching the computer servers of major examination bodies such as the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and the National Examinations Council (NECO).
According to intelligence sources, the suspects have confessed to deliberately sabotaging JAMB’s CBT infrastructure.
Their goal, they claimed, was to undermine public confidence in JAMB and deter the continued use of CBT by other examination bodies like NECO and the West African Examinations Council (WAEC).
One suspect reportedly explained that the group would install malicious software on exam body hardware, which allowed them to remotely access and manipulate JAMB servers at specific CBT centres.
The syndicate is accused of offering “special candidate” services, promising inflated UTME scores in exchange for hefty payments ranging from N700,000 to N2 million per candidate.
Preliminary investigations also revealed that many members of the ring own private schools and tutorial centres, which they use as fronts to run illegal “special centres,” profiting massively from compromised exam scores.
Authorities say more arrests may follow as investigations deepen.
