McIlroy Withdraws from Memorial Tournament

Masters champion Rory McIlroy has opted out of the upcoming Memorial Tournament in Ohio, marking his first absence from the event since 2017.
The tournament, hosted by golf legend Jack Nicklaus, is scheduled to take place at Muirfield Village from May 29 to June 1.
This will be the third time in 2025 that the 36-year-old Northern Irish golfer has skipped a PGA Tour signature event, having also missed The Sentry and the RBC Heritage.
His absence follows a disappointing performance at the US PGA Championship, where he finished tied for 47th and quietly exited without speaking to the media after any of his rounds.
McIlroy was also at the center of equipment controversy at the PGA, after reportedly removing a “non-conforming driver” from his bag just before the tournament began.
Earlier in the season, the five-time major champion had announced plans to reduce his playing schedule.
He has confirmed appearances in India this October and will return to the Australian Open in December for the first time in 11 years.
Following a two-week break from competitive play, McIlroy is set to return at the Canadian Open on June 5, leading into the US Open at Oakmont Country Club from June 12–15.
He is also expected to compete in the Travelers Championship, the final signature event of the season, the following week in Connecticut.
