Aregbesola Rejects Osun 2026 Alliance

Former Osun State Governor and leader of the Omoluabi Progressives, Rauf Aregbesola, has ruled out any political alliance ahead of the 2026 governorship election in the state.
Speaking at a reception held in his honour to mark his 68th birthday in Osogbo on Sunday, Aregbesola declared that his group would contest the election independently and was confident of securing victory.
Addressing a large gathering of supporters, Aregbesola dismissed speculations about possible coalitions, affirming that the Omoluabi Progressives would not align with any political party or group in the lead-up to the polls.
“Some people think we will align with others, but let me state clearly—we are not aligning with anyone. We will chart our own political course.
By this time next year, we will be closer to taking over Abere [Government House], and by the grace of God, we shall win,” he declared.
The former Minister of Interior also took a moment to reflect on the significance of maternal sacrifices during childbirth, urging celebrants to honour their mothers, whether alive or late, during birthdays.
In his remarks, Moshood Adeoti, former Secretary to the State Government under Aregbesola’s administration, encouraged members of the Omoluabi Progressives to remain loyal and dedicated to the group’s vision.
Governor Ademola Adeleke was represented at the event by Biyi Odunlade, who praised Aregbesola’s contributions to Osun State’s development.
Odunlade described Aregbesola’s governance record as exemplary and a benchmark for good leadership.
The reception was well-attended by political associates from Osun and Lagos, including members of the Omoluabi Progressives and former government appointees.
