FBI Reopens 2023 White House Cocaine Probe

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has reopened investigations into two high-profile cases that stirred significant public controversy: the discovery of cocaine at the White House in 2023 during President Joe Biden’s administration, and the 2022 leak of the Supreme Court draft opinion that overturned Roe v. Wade.
FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino, a former conservative media personality, announced the development in a statement shared via X (formerly Twitter) on May 26.
Bongino said the decision to revisit these cases, alongside the unresolved 2021 pipe bomb incidents near the Democratic and Republican National Committee headquarters, was made in coordination with FBI Director Kash Patel.
“After being sworn in, the Director and I reviewed a number of unresolved cases that have generated understandable public concern,” Bongino wrote.
“We’ve decided to allocate additional resources and investigative attention to move them forward.”
The West Wing cocaine discovery occurred over the Fourth of July weekend in 2023, when a small bag of the drug was found in a cubby near a frequently used staff and visitor entrance.
The incident prompted intense speculation, particularly from Republican figures including then-presidential candidate Donald Trump, who baselessly suggested that President Biden or his son, Hunter, might be involved.
At the time, the White House dismissed such claims as “incredibly irresponsible,” noting that the Biden family was not in Washington during the incident.
The Secret Service ultimately closed the case due to a lack of physical evidence, such as fingerprints or DNA, and the inability to pinpoint a suspect.
Bongino, however, has claimed—without offering proof—that whistleblowers expressed concern about potential links between the bag and individuals within Biden’s inner circle.
He has requested weekly briefings on all three reopened cases and stated, “We are making progress.”
Also under renewed scrutiny is the unprecedented leak of a draft majority opinion in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, which led to the historic rollback of abortion rights in the U.S.
The draft, published by Politico in May 2022, revealed the Supreme Court’s intention to overturn Roe v. Wade.
The leak provoked political firestorms, with Donald Trump calling for the jailing of the journalists involved unless they disclosed their sources.
With public interest still high, the FBI’s decision to revisit these cases signals a shift in priorities under its current leadership and promises further developments in the coming weeks.
