Man Allegedly Lynched by Kinsmen in Imo; Widow Seeks Justice

The widow of Chibugo Amadi, a man allegedly lynched by his kinsmen in Umuora village, Umuohiri community in Isiala Mbano Local Government Area of Imo State, is demanding justice for his death.
According to reports, Amadi had attacked his brother with a machete following a minor dispute, leaving him severely injured.

The victim was rushed to a hospital, where he was revived with the help of concerned community members.
In apparent retaliation, Amadi’s kinsmen allegedly took matters into their own hands.
They reportedly captured him, stripped him naked, beat him with sticks and planks, and paraded him through the village.
He eventually collapsed and was taken to a hospital in Okwelle, Onuimo Local Government Area, where he was declared dead by medical personnel.
Journalist and human rights advocate Chidiebube Okeoma revealed the incident on Sunday, May 25, claiming the perpetrators dumped Amadi’s body in a morgue and fled after confirming his death.
Okeoma added that videos of the attack were shared across social media platforms and clearly show the identities of those involved.
Okeoma, alongside the legal adviser of his foundation, Chijioke Onwubuariri, has taken up the case and is actively seeking justice for the deceased.
He noted that when Amadi’s 18-year-old son encountered the suspects at the hospital, they falsely claimed that his father had fallen from a tree.
A petition has been submitted to the Imo State Commissioner of Police, Aboki Danjuma, who has ordered the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) to launch a thorough investigation.
Amadi’s widow, Chinonye Amadi, and three of her eight children have appealed to the foundation for help.
She believes her husband’s death was premeditated and driven by a conspiracy to seize and sell off his property.
“This is a clear case of premeditated murder,” Okeoma stated. “We have video evidence of the assault, and the suspects must be brought to justice.
They not only conspired to kill him, but they also tried to cover it up with lies and deceit.
Our legal team is offering pro bono support, and we call on well-meaning Nigerians to join us in demanding justice for this family.”
