UTME Resit: 200K Candidates Score 200+

Following a resit exam prompted by technical and human errors during the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), over 200,000 additional candidates have now scored above 200 marks, the average score out of 400.
This update was confirmed after the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) released revised results on Sunday.
Initially, more than 1.5 million candidates scored below 200 out of 1.9 million who sat for the original exam.
However, following pressure from stakeholders, JAMB launched an investigation and uncovered systemic issues, particularly at 157 CBT centres in Lagos and the South-East. This led to a resit for 379,000 affected candidates.
The resit results show improvement. 565,988 candidates (29.3%) have now scored 200 and above — up from 24% in 2024 and 23.36% in 2023. Meanwhile, 1,365,479 candidates (70.7%) scored below 200, marking a slight improvement from 76% and 76.64% in the two previous years.
Notably, the number of high scorers has steadily increased:
- 117,373 candidates (6.08%) scored 250 and above in 2025,
- Up from 4.18% in 2024 and 3.73% in 2023.
Since adopting the Computer-Based Test (CBT) model in 2013, JAMB has refined its processes, and the 2025 results suggest these efforts are yielding better outcomes.
JAMB also addressed the issue of underage candidates. It released their results but reiterated that only those meeting the academic and age criteria would be eligible for admission, in line with previously signed agreements.
Further guidance on how these revised results will influence the admission process is expected from JAMB in the coming days.
