Speed Darlington Summoned by NAPTIP Over Viral Video

The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has officially summoned Nigerian singer Darlington Okoye, popularly known as Speed Darlington, to appear at its national headquarters in Abuja on Friday, May 30, 2025, at 9 a.m.
According to a letter issued by the agency on May 28, Speed Darlington is required to answer questions regarding a disturbing video from an Instagram Live session in which he allegedly claimed to have had sexual relations with a 15-year-old girl at a hotel. The video has since gone viral and sparked public outrage.
NAPTIP stated that if the claims made in the video are confirmed, they would constitute a serious violation of the Trafficking in Persons (Prohibition) Enforcement and Administration Act of 2015. The agency emphasized that such allegations fall under its legal mandate and would not be taken lightly.
The letter urges Speed Darlington to comply with the invitation to avoid potential legal consequences and further enforcement actions.
Excerpt from the letter reads:
“Your presence is required for a fact-finding discussion on the issues raised in the viral video. This is a matter of urgency. Failure to comply with this request may result in further steps being taken in accordance with the law.”
The situation has drawn widespread attention, with many calling for a thorough investigation into the singer’s comments and potential criminal conduct.
