Miley Cyrus Breaks Silence on Rift with Dad Billy Ray

Miley Cyrus has spoken candidly about her once-strained relationship with her father, Billy Ray Cyrus, revealing that the two have reconnected after years of emotional distance.
In a reflective interview with The New York Times, the singer shared how time, maturity, and personal growth have reshaped her understanding of family.
Now 31, Miley explained that her evolving perspective has led her to see her parents more as individuals than just as “mom and dad.” “As I’ve gotten older, I’ve started to respect my parents as people rather than only in their roles as parents,” she said.
“My mom loved my dad her whole life, and being married to someone in the music industry without being a part of it herself must’ve been really hard.”
Miley also admitted she had absorbed some of her mother Tish Cyrus’s emotional pain following her split from Billy Ray.
“I took on some of my mom’s hurt as my own. It hurt her more than it hurt me, and I ended up carrying a lot of that weight,” she revealed.
Since their 2022 divorce, both of Miley’s parents have entered new relationships.
Tish is now married to actor Dominic Purcell, while Billy Ray is dating singer Firerose (Elizabeth Hurley was previously rumored).
Miley expressed happiness for both of them, noting that she can now support them independently.
“My mom is so in love with my stepdad, who I absolutely adore. And seeing my dad find his own happiness too — I’m able to love them separately, as individuals, not just as a couple.”
The Cyrus family’s ups and downs have often unfolded under intense public scrutiny, but Miley said she’s learned to cope with life in the spotlight.
“What I like about today’s world is how quickly things move. In the ’90s, if something hit a tabloid, it lingered for a year. Now it’s gone in a day,” she noted.
Despite the challenges of growing up in the public eye, Miley says she wouldn’t trade her life for anything.
“If dealing with some public drama is the price I pay for this life, it’s one I’m willing to accept.”
