I Go Save Urges FG to Ban Public Smoking Over Youth Influence

Nigerian comedian, I Go Save, has urged the Federal Government to implement a nationwide ban on smoking in public spaces, citing its growing influence on the country’s youth.
In a statement shared via his Instagram page, the comedian expressed concern over the normalization of smoking, especially among young Nigerians who often emulate what they see in public and online. He noted that the unchecked visibility of smoking in public areas is gradually shaping it into a social norm, thereby increasing the likelihood of youth adopting the habit.
“The influence on our youths is becoming too much,” I Go Save wrote. “Everywhere you turn, you see people smoking—on the streets, in parks, even at public events.
It sends the wrong message to our younger generation, who are already grappling with peer pressure and identity struggles.”
He called on authorities to take proactive steps, starting with regulating where smoking is allowed, in order to safeguard public health and discourage youth from taking up the habit.
Many of his followers echoed his concerns in the comment section, while others called for a more holistic approach to addressing substance use and youth exposure.
This is what he had to say:
