Mike Farrell Remembers Late ‘MAS*H’ Co-Star Loretta Swit

Mike Farrell Reflects on Loretta Swit’s Legacy and Their Bond on MASH*
Veteran actor Mike Farrell is opening up about the profound loss of his MASH* co-star, Loretta Swit, who passed away suddenly last week.

In a heartfelt tribute, Farrell shared memories of their time together on the beloved show and the special bond shared among the cast.
Farrell revealed that he first learned of Swit’s passing through her assistant, and described her as a “dynamo” — a woman full of energy, warmth, and unwavering professionalism.
“She had this quiet grace off-camera,” Mike recalled, “but when the director called ‘Action,’ she would transform — full of fire and strength as Margaret ‘Hot Lips’ Houlihan. It was an incredible thing to watch.”
He spoke fondly of the MASH* cast as a tight-knit family, one that grew close over the years and remained a part of each other’s lives well beyond their time on set.
But with Swit’s passing, Farrell reflected on the emotional toll of losing so many from the show’s iconic “Core 7.”
“We’ve had to watch many of our comrades pass,” he said somberly. “They’re slipping away one by one.”
Today, just four of the original main cast remain: Alan Alda, Jamie Farr, Gary Burghoff, and Farrell himself.
Still, he finds peace in the idea that Loretta is now reunited with her dear friend Harry Morgan and other beloved castmates who have passed.
“She was a trooper — that’s what we always called her,” Mike said. “And I don’t think she’d want anyone to feel sad. She’s probably laughing and swapping stories with Harry right now.”
