Mikel Obi Urges Osimhen to Join Man U, Arsenal or Chelsea Over Saudi Move

Former Super Eagles captain John Obi Mikel has voiced his strong support for Victor Osimhen to make a move to the Premier League this summer, rather than accepting offers from Saudi Arabia or other non-European leagues.
Osimhen, currently with Napoli, came close to joining Chelsea last summer, but the deal fell through in the final stages.
Chelsea have since shifted their focus, recently signing Liam Delap from relegated Ipswich Town, seemingly ending their pursuit of the Nigerian striker.
Despite renewed interest from Turkish side Galatasaray and a lucrative offer from Saudi club Al-Hilal, Mikel believes such a move would be premature and a waste of Osimhen’s untapped potential.
“I hope there is still a Premier League move for him this summer,” Mikel told Metro. “I think clubs like Arsenal and Manchester United still need a striker. I don’t believe Rasmus Højlund is the man to take United back into the top four or help them win major trophies. For me, United might be the perfect destination for Osimhen.”
Mikel, who won several major trophies with Chelsea during his career, emphasized that Osimhen should remain in Europe to continue developing at the highest level.
“I don’t want to see him go to Saudi just yet — he still has so much to offer in Europe. It would be a shame to see him leave now. Maybe Arsenal, United, Juventus, or PSG — we’ll see what happens.”
Reflecting on Chelsea’s failure to sign Osimhen, Mikel expressed his disappointment, especially considering the striker’s childhood support for the club.
“Everyone knows who I wanted to see at Chelsea and who the fans were hoping for. It’s unfortunate the move didn’t happen, especially since Osimhen supported the club growing up. But the club has made its choice with Delap, and that’s fine. Hopefully, it works out.”
Mikel concluded by encouraging Chelsea fans to back their new signing, even if he doesn’t carry the same immediate impact many were expecting from a player like Osimhen.
“I would’ve loved to see someone arrive and make an instant impact — someone with experience in big games and tough competitions. Still, we have to support Delap and hope he delivers.”
