Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and several Nigerian leaders have extended heartfelt Eid-el-Kabir greetings to Muslims across the country, urging them to embrace the festival’s core values of sacrifice, devotion, and unity.
In statements issued ahead of the celebrations, these leaders emphasized the importance of prayer, charity, and peaceful coexistence, while also calling on the nation’s leaders to demonstrate compassion and commitment to the welfare of all Nigerians.
Atiku Abubakar highlighted the festival’s spiritual significance, rooted in the story of Prophet Ibrahim, urging Muslims to seek God’s mercy and to extend kindness and generosity beyond the celebrations.
He appealed to political leaders to prioritize the people’s welfare and lead with compassion.
Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji congratulated the Muslim community on Eid-el-Kabir, describing sacrifice as a path to success and fulfillment.
He called for unity, love, and mutual respect among all religious groups in the state and encouraged the Muslim community to continue supporting his administration and that of President Bola Tinubu through prayers.
Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu also sent felicitations, urging Muslims to reflect on the lessons of sacrifice and to work toward unity and progress for Lagos and Nigeria. Similarly, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde urged the Muslim faithful to use the occasion for increased prayers for the state and nation and thanked them for their continued support.
Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun emphasized the spirit of selflessness and compassion embodied by the festival and encouraged Muslims to live by these teachings.
House Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, currently participating in the Hajj pilgrimage, called on Nigerians to embrace both personal and collective sacrifices for national development.
Senator George Akume, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, reminded citizens of the need for selfless love and generosity, calling for prayers for peace and stability under President Tinubu’s administration.
Senator Abdulfatai Buhari of Oyo North encouraged Muslims to emulate Prophet Ibrahim’s faith and obedience and prayed for peace and prosperity in the region.
Security Agencies Deploy Personnel for Eid-el-Kabir
In preparation for a safe and peaceful Eid-el-Kabir celebration, various security agencies across Nigeria have intensified their deployment of personnel.
- Oyo State NSCDC has stationed 2,750 personnel at strategic locations including prayer grounds, motor parks, and major intersections to ensure security.
- Zamfara NSCDC deployed 725 personnel across the state’s 14 local government areas to maintain calm before, during, and after the festivities.
- Oyo State Police Command has positioned officers in key areas including places of worship, correctional centers, and major highways to safeguard residents.
- Ondo State’s Amotekun Corps has deployed over 600 operatives statewide for 24-hour patrols to prevent crime, working closely with the police. The State Commissioner of Police also assured robust security measures.
- Plateau NSCDC deployed 1,784 personnel across the state, urging professionalism to ensure peaceful celebrations.
Security commanders across states reaffirmed their commitment to protecting lives and property during the festival, urging citizens to celebrate moderately and obey the law for a safe and joyous Eid-el-Kabir.
