Spurs’ Son Hails Postecoglou as a Club Legend

Tottenham Hotspur captain Son Heung-min has paid an emotional tribute to outgoing manager Ange Postecoglou, calling him a “legend” who transformed the club’s direction during his tenure.
Postecoglou, 59, was relieved of his duties on Friday, just two weeks after leading Spurs to a historic Europa League final win—ending a 17-year wait for silverware.
Despite lifting the trophy, Spurs had a disappointing domestic season, finishing 17th in the Premier League with 22 defeats from 38 games.
Taking to Instagram, Son shared heartfelt words about the impact Postecoglou had on the club and his personal journey.
“Gaffer, you’ve changed the trajectory of this club,” Son wrote. “You believed in us from day one and never doubted what we could achieve, even when others did.
You stuck to your principles, and they delivered the club’s best night in decades. Those memories will live with us forever.
“You entrusted me with the captaincy—one of the highest honours of my career—and I’ve grown as both a player and a person under your leadership. Ange, you are a Tottenham Hotspur legend forever. Thank you, mate.”
Son wasn’t the only player to express admiration. Midfielder James Maddison, who joined from Leicester City alongside Postecoglou’s arrival, praised the manager’s faith in him.
“Your belief in me, from signing me to making me vice-captain and part of the leadership group, meant the world,” Maddison said.
“You led us to a European title and into the club’s history books. More than that, your character and unwavering belief inspired us all. I’ve learned so much from you.”
Goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario echoed those sentiments, expressing gratitude for the trust Postecoglou showed from their first conversation.
“You’re more than a manager—you’re a mentor and a leader. What we accomplished together will live in history. Thank you for everything, boss.”
Defender Micky van de Ven also offered appreciation:
“You believed in me from the first day. Despite the ups and downs, you never stopped pushing us. I’ll always be grateful to have been part of this journey with you.”
Forward Dominic Solanke thanked Postecoglou for bringing him to the club and delivering a long-awaited trophy.
“I’ll never forget our first conversation before I signed. You made the dream happen.”
Even the Tottenham Hotspur Supporters’ Trust weighed in, acknowledging the deep affection many fans feel for the Australian manager:
“The vast majority of supporters will love Ange forever. While the league campaign fell short of expectations, the cup triumph brought long-overdue joy.”
With Postecoglou’s departure, speculation has turned to his successor. Among the leading names reportedly under consideration are Brentford’s Thomas Frank, Bournemouth’s Andoni Iraola, Fulham’s Marco Silva, Crystal Palace’s Oliver Glasner, and former Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino.
The Supporters’ Trust has urged the board to fully back whoever steps into the role, stressing the importance of building on the foundation Postecoglou laid with his European success.
