Man, 68, Falls Into Ibadan Well While Retrieving Phone

A 68-year-old man, Ahmed Olaniyan, narrowly escaped death after falling into a well while attempting to retrieve his mobile phone in Ibadan, Oyo State.
The incident occurred early Sunday morning, June 8, at Mobolorunduro Mosque, located on Ajeigbe Street in the Molefalafia area of Oke-Ado.
According to Moroof Adebayo Akinwande, Special Adviser to the Governor on Fire Services Agency Reform and Chairman of the agency, the mishap happened due to a lack of awareness about the dangers of entering a well without proper safety knowledge or equipment.
Akinwande confirmed that a distress call was received at 6:10 a.m. from a resident identified as Mr. Samuel, prompting an immediate response from the Oyo State Fire Service.

A team led by Assistant Chief Fire Superintendent Mrs. Adedeji was dispatched to the scene.
Upon arrival, fire personnel found the elderly man trapped deep inside the well.
Using ropes and safety techniques, the rescue team successfully brought Olaniyan out alive and handed him over to his family for medical attention.
Akinwande emphasized that the incident was a result of ignorance and urged residents to avoid taking unnecessary risks.
He also noted the state government’s continued efforts to prioritize the safety and well-being of its citizens through improved emergency response systems.
