Suspected Vandal Arrested for Stealing Iron Rods from Newly Constructed Ebu Bridge in Delta
A man identified as Emmanuel Sunday has been arrested for allegedly vandalizing public infrastructure by removing iron rods from pedestrian slabs near the newly constructed Ebu Bridge along the Ughelli–Asaba Road in Delta State.
The arrest was made by the Delta State Commissioner for Environment, Jamani Ejiro, who caught the suspect in the act of dismantling and stealing reinforcement rods embedded in the pedestrian walkway adjacent to the bridge.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Sunday, a native of Ikot-Okpene Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, is a carpenter employed on a contract basis by the construction firm working on the project.
During initial questioning, he reportedly confessed to the crime, admitting that he had been removing the materials without authorization.
Commissioner Ejiro condemned the act as sabotage against public infrastructure, warning that the state government would not tolerate the destruction or theft of newly completed projects meant to serve the public.
Following his arrest, Sunday was handed over to the Nigeria Police for further investigation and possible prosecution.
The Delta State government has reiterated its commitment to protecting public assets and urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity around government infrastructure.
