Miley Cyrus Reflects on Healing Family Rift After Years of Drama

Pop icon Miley Cyrus has opened up about a turbulent chapter in her family’s history, describing the past decade as a “really difficult, dark” period marked by division and emotional distance.
Speaking on the latest episode of Reclaiming with Monica Lewinsky, the 32-year-old singer shared that there was a time when half of her family had stopped speaking to each other.
The estrangement followed years of strain caused by her parents’ rocky relationship, which culminated in their official divorce in 2022.
“There was so much chaos, we couldn’t even manage to schedule a therapy session,” Miley said, joking that traditional counseling was never an option for her “messy” family dynamic.
Instead of conventional healing methods, Miley took a more intuitive and hands-on approach. She introduced what she called “emotional decluttering,” focusing on reconnecting her loved ones by fostering joyful moments, easing tension, and gradually rebuilding lines of communication.
Her method involved avoiding intense confrontations at first, and instead simply showing up, creating positive energy, and letting conversations happen naturally.
“I just busted through the pile,” she said. “I showed up and said, ‘I’m here, you’re here—let’s just enjoy this moment.’ From there, the harder talks became easier.”
Miley admitted she felt especially loyal to her mother, Tish Cyrus, and was deeply affected by witnessing the damage that unresolved issues could cause over time.
But today, she says much of the silence and emotional distance between family members has dissipated.
Thanks to her efforts to bring peace and connection, she believes her family has finally turned a corner.
