R. Kelly’s Lawyers Ask Trump for Release Over Alleged Prison Plot
R. Kelly’s legal team made a startling appeal on Tuesday, urging former President Donald Trump to intervene and secure the singer’s immediate release from federal custody.
In an emergency motion filed in Chicago’s federal court, his attorneys alleged a disturbing plot involving prison officials and white supremacist inmates who they claim were enlisted to assassinate Kelly while he serves his 30-year sentence for sex crimes.
At a press conference, lead attorney Beau Brindley said Kelly’s life is in imminent danger due to what he called systemic corruption within the prison system—corruption he claims mirrors what Trump has long campaigned against.
“R. Kelly’s life is now threatened because of his fight to expose the very same institutional corruption that President Trump has stood against since taking office,” Brindley said. “We are asking President Trump to help us now, before it’s too late.”
Brindley made it clear the legal team is not following the typical clemency path, citing the urgency of the alleged threats. “We don’t have time for the usual bureaucracy.
We’re seeking direct talks with the White House,” he added, noting recent presidential interventions such as Trump’s commutation of Gangster Disciples co-founder Larry Hoover and hints about possible pardons for other controversial figures, including Sean “Diddy” Combs.
The motion outlines a series of alarming claims. Kelly’s former cellmate allegedly conspired with prison authorities to intercept and leak his private legal documents to federal prosecutors, aiming to sabotage his defense during his child pornography trial.
The team also says a federal prison officer warned Kelly to stop eating in the communal mess hall due to suspected poisoning threats.
The most serious allegation involves a member of the Aryan Brotherhood, who reportedly told Kelly that prison officials had orchestrated his transfer to the North Carolina facility with the sole purpose of carrying out a murder plot.
According to the filing, the inmate was promised assistance in avoiding prosecution and even offered help in escaping prison, referencing a prior escape attempt.
In a dramatic turn, the inmate reportedly chose not to go through with the plan and instead warned Kelly, fearing for his life.
This same inmate, the motion notes, has a long history of suing the Bureau of Prisons and federal officials, casting a complex shadow over the explosive allegations.
Kelly’s defense team argues that these claims, if proven true, point to a criminal conspiracy within the federal prison system and demand immediate intervention—not only for Kelly’s safety but to expose deeper corruption they say puts all inmates at risk.
