Musk Called Trump Before Apologizing for Past Attacks

Elon Musk privately reached out to former President Donald Trump before publicly apologizing for a series of personal attacks he had made just days earlier.
According to a White House source cited by Reuters, the two spoke on the evening of June 10—marking their first direct communication since a public fallout.
Only a few hours later, Musk posted a 3:04 a.m. message on X (formerly Twitter), saying, “I regret some of my posts about President @realDonaldTrump last week. They went too far.” He did not specify which remarks he was referring to.
Earlier that week, Musk had made several controversial posts, including an unverified claim linking Trump to sensitive documents tied to Jeffrey Epstein, and another backing Trump’s impeachment. Both posts have since been deleted.
The call came amid behind-the-scenes efforts to repair the strained relationship. Reports from Axios and The Wall Street Journal revealed that Trump insiders—Vice President JD Vance and Chief of Staff Susie Wiles—contacted Musk on June 6 to urge a reconciliation.
Musk, who recently stepped down from his position as head of the White House Department of Government Efficiency, played a prominent role in Trump’s early second-term agenda to downsize government agencies and reduce spending.
Despite receiving a warm sendoff from Trump, tensions quickly escalated afterward.
In recent days, Musk has softened his stance, including voicing support for Trump’s controversial decision to deploy National Guard troops to control unrest in Los Angeles following aggressive ICE raids.
He has also moderated his opposition to Trump’s tax reform bill—once dubbed a “disgusting abomination” by Musk—which Trump continues to promote as his signature legislative achievement.
Trump, too, appears ready to move on. In a podcast interview released June 11, he said, “I was disappointed in him. But it is what it is. Things like that happen. I don’t blame him for anything.”
