Boston University Responds to Alex Cooper’s Harassment Claims

Boston University has issued an official response following serious allegations made by podcast host Alex Cooper, who claims she endured inappropriate conduct from a former coach during her time on the university’s women’s soccer team.

In her newly released documentary Call Her Alex, Cooper alleged that a female coach fixated on her in an unsettling manner—frequently prying into her personal and sₑxual life.

She recounted being benched during a match after refusing to answer invasive questions, describing the experience as emotionally distressing and deeply uncomfortable.

Cooper said both she and her parents reported the behavior to university officials at the time, but no corrective action was taken. The ongoing discomfort eventually led her to leave the team before her senior year.

Since the documentary’s debut, several other former Boston University women’s soccer players have come forward with similar accounts, adding to public pressure on the university to address the claims.

In a statement released Thursday night, Boston University reaffirmed its commitment to student safety and zero tolerance for harassment.

“Boston University has a zero-tolerance policy for sₑxual harassment. We have a robust system of resources, support, and staff dedicated to student wellbeing, and a comprehensive reporting process through our Equal Opportunity Office,” the university said. “We encourage all members of our community to report any concerns, and we remain committed to maintaining a safe and respectful campus environment.”

Alex Cooper, now 30, played for BU’s Terriers from 2013 to 2015, appearing in 49 games and scoring one goal during her collegiate career.

As of now, Cooper has not publicly responded to the university’s statement.
