Fritz Defeats Zverev to Win Stuttgart Title

Fritz Downs Zverev Again to Claim Stuttgart Open Title
Taylor Fritz defeated Alexander Zverev in straight sets to win the Stuttgart Open final, extending his dominance over the German with a fifth consecutive victory.
The American triumphed 6-3, 7-6 (7-0) in just 87 minutes on Sunday, claiming his first ATP title of the season and ninth overall.
Fritz, the second seed, was in complete control throughout the grass-court final, not dropping serve once and sealing the title with a flawless tiebreak.
Zverev, the world No. 3, struggled under pressure, double-faulting twice and misfiring at the net in a nervy first set.
After the match, Zverev jokingly expressed his frustration, saying, “I’m tired of you. I don’t want to see you for the next two or three years—stay away from me!” The 28-year-old German has now lost all four of their meetings in 2024, including at Wimbledon and the US Open.
Fritz, who will now rise to world No. 4 ahead of Wimbledon later this month, said, “I’m really happy, especially as it wasn’t a great clay season. To start the grass season like this is amazing.”
Zverev, still seeking his first career title on grass, has now lost all three grass-court finals he has played, despite reaching three Grand Slam finals in his career. Wimbledon, where he’s never gone past the fourth round, remains elusive.

World No. 1 Jannik Sinner opened up about his emotional aftermath following his heartbreaking five-set loss to Carlos Alcaraz in the French Open final.
The Italian revealed he endured “a few sleepless nights” after missing three championship points in the third set of the epic battle.
Reflecting on the loss ahead of the Halle Open, Sinner said, “Tennis is very important, but family and friends are more important.
I spent time with them—grilled a bit, played table tennis—but I still think about the match.”
Sinner joins Zverev, Daniil Medvedev, and Andrey Rublev at the Halle Open, while Alcaraz is set to kick off his grass season at Queen’s Club, where he’s the defending champion.
On the women’s side, nine of the top 10 WTA players, including Coco Gauff, Aryna Sabalenka, and Jessica Pegula, are set to compete at the Berlin Open.
However, British No. 1 Emma Raducanu has withdrawn as she continues to manage a lingering back issue.
