Police Bust Cult Initiation, Arrest Six in Anambra

The Anambra State Police Command has successfully disrupted a suspected cult initiation ceremony in Nawfia, located in Njikoka Local Government Area, leading to the arrest of six individuals and the recovery of several dangerous items.
According to a press release issued on Tuesday, June 17, by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the operation was carried out on the morning of June 15, 2025, based on credible, intelligence-driven information.
“At about 9:30 a.m. on June 15, police operatives, acting swiftly on a tip-off, stormed a hideout in Nawfia where a suspected cult initiation was underway,” Ikenga said. “During the operation, six suspects were arrested at the scene.”
Items recovered from the suspects include a Jojef pump-action shotgun, two live cartridges, two cutlasses, a pair of scissors, charms, suspected hard drugs, and a golden Lexus SUV with registration number ATN 202 AE.
Police also found a cap bearing the insignia of the Supreme Vikings Confraternity—indicating possible affiliation with the notorious cult group.
The arrested suspects, all males aged between 20 and 30, were identified as Nwadike Chibuike, Anierobi Precious, Raphael Ebube, Ezechi Benjamin, Okafor Chidera, and Chiema Okoye.
The police say the men are currently undergoing interrogation to uncover more details about their network and activities.
SP Ikenga assured the public that the Anambra State Police Command is intensifying efforts to clamp down on cultism and other related crimes.
He reiterated the force’s commitment to ensuring a safe and secure environment for all residents.
“The fight against cult-related violence remains a top priority.
We urge members of the public to remain vigilant and continue to support the police with timely and useful information,” he added.
The case will be formally charged in court following the conclusion of the ongoing investigation.
