Insecurity: Anglican Bishop urges Tinubu to investigate alleged complicity of security operatives

The Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Enugu, Rt Rev Professor Samuel Obiajulu Ike has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to as a matter of national urgency investigate the alleged complicity and collusion of security operatives with terrorists and bandits.

The Bishop made the call at a press briefing ahead of the 2nd Session of the 19th Synod of the diocese commencing from 26th June till 29th June 2025.

Ike, who was visibly dismayed at the wastage of lives and property in many parts of the country, especially in Benue and other states, posited that now was the time to take decisive action to save the nation from hopelessness occasioned by the rising insurgency.

He, therefore, called on the president to rise to the occasion and investigate the security operatives and intelligence agents who are rumoured to be part of the quagmire.

“We therefore call on the president as a matter of national urgency and utmost security importance to investigate the strongly rumoured complicity and collusion of top security and intelligence chiefs with the terrorists and bandits.

“The president should take decisive action where these officers are found negligent, complicit and guilty of these allegations, they should be prosecuted and flushed out,” he posited.

The Bishop also urged the president to investigate the allegation that some people were turning the fight against insecurity into a money making venture.

The cleric also advised the president to order the sack of non-performing service chiefs, as well as cause a release of the drones and jets meant for the fight against insecurity, noting that in spite of the huge amounts spent in procuring them, insecurity was still on the rise.

Ike also stressed the need for the creation of state and community police to fight the war against insecurity.

The cleric expressed optimism that the 19th Synod with the theme: “Living By Every Word of God” will provide a platform for a revival that could change the country for good.

He further added that the Synod, which will take place at St Pauls Anglican Church, China Town, Enugu will deliberate on challenges facing the church and seek for the way forward.

Speaking further on the forthcoming Synod, the Bishop said that it was free for the general public to participate since it was for the Church’s revival, as well as the nation’s revival.
