Landmine explodes in Imo market, kills one, injures five

No fewer than one particular person was killed and 5 others injured after a landmine exploded inside Eke Ubaheze Market Sq. in Awo-Idemili, Orsu LGA of Imo State.

The tragic incident reportedly killed one Ngozi Umeh, a dealer from Ubaheze village.

The spokesman stated the 5 injured victims had been presently receiving therapy at an undisclosed medical facility.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that the explosion occurred when Ngozi Umeh, a middle-aged girl from Ubaheze village, stepped on a landmine suspected to have been planted by IPOB/ESN terrorist.

“She was critically injured and later confirmed lifeless on the hospital, whereas 5 others sustained various levels of accidents and are receiving medical consideration,” he stated.

The police picture maker stated the state police commissioner, Aboki Danjuma, deployed the command’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit and tactical groups to the world following a misery name.

He stated that operatives from Orsu and Orlu divisions additionally responded to evacuate victims and sweep the marketplace for different explosive gadgets.

The police spokesperson stated the market has since been declared secure and regular actions have resumed below heightened safety.
