Diogo Jota, brother’s funerals set for Saturday in Gondomar following tragic Lamborghini crash

Liverpool forward Diogo Jota and his brother André Silva will be laid to rest on Saturday, following their tragic deaths in a car crash in Spain on Wednesday night.

The funeral mass is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. local time at the Igreja Matriz de Gondomar, their hometown parish near Porto, Portugal.

Jota, 28, and André, 25, a professional footballer with Portuguese side Penafiel, lost their lives after a tyre on their Lamborghini blew out while driving along the A-52 in Zamora, northwestern Spain.

The vehicle veered off the road, caught fire, and both men were pronounced dead at the scene. Emergency responders were unable to save them.

The brothers had reportedly been en route to Santander to catch a ferry back to the UK when the fatal crash occurred.

A wake will be held at the São Cosme Chapel next to the church ahead of the funeral service.

While it remains unclear whether the family will opt for a private or public ceremony, President of Portugal Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa is expected to attend the wake to pay his respects.

Jota began his footballing journey in Gondomar and was widely regarded as one of the region’s finest sporting exports.

He was expected to return to Liverpool later this month for pre-season preparations, having missed several matches last season due to injury.

Family members, including Jota’s widow Rute, have been supporting each other through the ordeal and were seen at the Zamora forensic unit, where autopsies were conducted before the bodies were released for repatriation to Portugal.

The football world remains in mourning as tributes continue to pour in for a player described as tenacious, humble, and deeply committed — both on and off the pitch.
