Escaped Monkey Shot Useless by Frightened Mississippi Mom

One of many escaped monkeys in Mississippi was shot and killed on Sunday morning by a neighborhood mom who mentioned she feared for her kids’s security.
In line with the Related Press, Jessica Bond Ferguson, a mom of 5 from Heidelberg, Mississippi, mentioned her 16-year-old son first noticed the monkey of their yard. When she stepped outdoors, the animal was solely about 60 ft from their house.

Ferguson instructed the outlet, “I did what another mom would do to guard her kids. I shot at it and it simply stood there, so I fired once more. That’s when it backed up and fell.”
The incident follows a late-October truck crash involving a transport car carrying Rhesus monkeys from Tulane Nationwide Biomedical Analysis Heart in Louisiana. The accident led to the escape of 21 monkeys.
Authorities managed to seize 13 of them, whereas 5 have been shot after a supervisor incorrectly claimed the monkeys have been contaminated with COVID-19, herpes, and hepatitis C—claims officers later confirmed have been false. That left three monkeys unaccounted for.
On Sunday, one other of the remaining monkeys was safely captured by authorities, leaving only one nonetheless on the free.
