'There is still time' – Man United struggler given hope after disastrous performance vs Spurs

AdminBy AdminNovember 9, 2025No Comments3 Mins Read

Former Arsenal winger and Premier League pundit Theo Walcott has come to the defense of Manchester United striker Benjamin Sesko, urging patience from fans and pundits as the Slovenian continues to adapt to life at Old Trafford.

Sesko’s poor performance against Spurs is getting a lot of attention and rightly so.

The striker had two golden chances to score for his team against Thomas Frank’s side but his failure to capitalise on chances proved costly for Man United in the end.

A match which Ruben Amorim’s side were winning at one stage and looking comfortable, they managed to finish with a 2-2 draw and although they scored an equaliser in the 96th minute through Matthijs de Ligt, they could have won the match had Sesko shown his goal scoring quality.

Theo Walcott comes out in support of Benjamin Sesko

Walcott, who spent over a decade in the Premier League and understands the pressure that comes with leading the line for a major club, emphasised that strikers are often their own harshest critics.

“As a forward player I’d always be my biggest critic,” Walcott said on BBC.

“How many crosses did I get in? How many shots did I have? Did I beat my man? Benjamin Sesko isn’t contributing much at the moment and Manchester United don’t seem to be playing to his strengths. But there is still time.”

The former England international believes that while Sesko has yet to hit top form, his potential remains undeniable.

The 21-year-old joined United from RB Leipzig in a high-profile £74 million move during the summer and has struggled to make a consistent impact, netting just twice in his first 11 appearances.

But Walcott insists the youngster should not be written off so soon.

Drawing comparisons to Arsenal legend Thierry Henry and former teammate Olivier Giroud, Walcott reminded supporters that even some of the Premier League’s greatest forwards needed time to adjust.

“I remember when Thierry Henry came to the Premier League – he was a shadow of the player we remember now,” Walcott continued. “I also played with Olivier Giroud – he took about 10 games to really get going, and not many people remember that. We could all see what type of player he was going to be in training.”

Sesko’s physical attributes, aerial threat and finishing ability have long been praised, but adapting to Amorim’s tactical system at United has proven challenging.

The team’s inconsistent service and fluid attacking rotations have limited his opportunities in front of goal.

Despite this, Walcott remains optimistic that Sesko will find his rhythm as the season progresses, especially once he builds chemistry with his teammates and adjusts to the Premier League’s intensity.
