Breaking: Nigerian Senator Okey Ezea passes away in UK

AdminBy AdminNovember 19, 2025Updated:November 19, 2025No Comments2 Mins Read

Senator Okey Ezea of Enugu North Senatorial District has died in the United Kingdom, where he was receiving medical treatment.

His death has thrown Enugu State into mourning, as he was the only remaining Labour Party (LP) member representing the state in the National Assembly.

The late lawmaker, a prominent figure in the Nsukka area, was elected on the LP platform during the 2023 general elections.

Announcement of His Passing

The news of his death was confirmed on Tuesday after a popular on-air personality, Chijinkem Ugwuanyi, announced it on Facebook.

Ugwuanyi wrote: “Sad News. Senator Okey Ezea, representing Enugu North, is dead… Rest in Peace.”

The announcement triggered widespread reactions across social media, with many residents expressing shock and sadness.

Tributes From Political Leaders

Senator Orji Uzor Kalu led the tributes with a lengthy message describing Ezea as a close friend and colleague. Kalu said he received the news “with profound shock and deep sorrow”, and noted that their relationship went beyond legislative work.

According to him, they shared a warm personal bond strengthened by their Catholic faith. “Those quiet moments of prayer and spiritual communion remain etched in my heart,” Kalu wrote.

He also said the Senate had lost “a principled voice” and extended condolences to Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

Condolences to Enugu State and Family

Kalu further commiserated with Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, and the people of Enugu, especially the Nsukka community.

He praised the late senator’s dedication to public service and commitment to the wellbeing of his constituents.

He also prayed for strength for the senator’s family, describing him as “a noble man whose legacy of service and faith will continue to shine”.
