Soyinka blasts Trump over talks of military invasion in Nigeria

AdminBy AdminNovember 22, 2025Updated:November 22, 2025No Comments1 Min Read

Nobel laureate Wole Soyinka has strongly criticised U.S. President Donald Trump’s recent threat to send American military forces to Nigeria, describing the stance as reckless and dismissive of the nation’s security realities.

Speaking after a meeting with Governor Hyacinth Alia in Makurdi, Soyinka argued that the remarks reflected a predetermined and uninformed view of Nigeria’s internal challenges.

He stressed that such external interventions should not be announced impulsively and warned that the combative tone of the threat overlooked the complexity of Nigeria’s security landscape.

“You don’t just open your mouth and say, ‘I’m coming to help you whether you like it or not.

“With poor, almost non-existent analysis, you say you are coming with ‘guns blazing,” he said.

Wole Soyinka says govt should protect its citizens

The Nobel laureate reiterated that the government must protect its citizen but the victims deserve respect.

“At least respect those finding solutions to this unacceptable situation,” he said.

He added …

“Because I’m ill or have difficulties does not mean I should accept aid from a m@d man. You cannot just open your mouth and say you’re coming to help someone with viølence, without any real analysis of where the problem started.”
