Villagers in Sabon Layi Babban Mutu, Katsina State, reportedly retaliated against a group of bandits after 30 residents were kidnapped and a ransom of ₦100 million per person was demanded.

Villagers respond with counter-abduction

The incident involved the abductors holding the villagers for several days while pressing the community for payment.

According to eyewitness accounts shared online, residents responded by abducting the relatives of the bandits.

The villagers allegedly informed the bandits that the detained family members would be harmed if the captives were not released.

This standoff created a tense atmosphere in the community as both sides waited for a resolution.

The bandits eventually released all the kidnapped villagers without collecting any ransom.

Some reports also claimed that each freed resident received ₦30,000 for transportation back home.

Social media reactions

The incident generated widespread discussions on social media, with many users expressing shock and debating the implications of the villagers’ action.

@MikeDoesMoney: “Which means, all these terrorists are known ?”

@Kinging_SZN: “Going Aura 4 Aura with bandit is crazy.”

@dii_imma: “They tried to lie that the terrorists are not Nigerians and are imported. Can you imagine?!!”

@dkelvin33: “I have always maintained that if we carry arms and start going band for band with these terrorists, they will never kidnap anybody again in their lives. Even Gumi will be the one crying for foreign intervention!”

While reactions were mixed, many Nigerians argued that the event reflects the level of frustration communities feel in the face of persistent insecurity.
