Good news has finally come out of Kebbi State as all 24 schoolgirls abducted from Government girls comprehensive secondary school, Maga, have regained their freedom.

The Special Adviser to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on information and strategy, Bayo Onanuga, confirmed the rescue in a statement issued on Tuesday.

“I am relieved that all the 24 girls have been accounted for. Now, we must urgently deploy more boots on the ground in vulnerable areas to prevent further kidnappings. My government will provide all necessary support to achieve this,” the statement quoted the President as saying.

President Tinubu commended the security agencies for their efforts in securing the girls’ freedom and called on them to intensify operations to rescue any students still in captivity.

Last week, it was reported that bandits stormed the school hostel on Monday, abducting 25 female students while one managed to escape.

Following the attack, President Tinubu ordered the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, to relocate to Kebbi to coordinate rescue efforts, while praising the security agencies for their success, he also warned that the work was not yet done.

The attacks sparked national outrage and renewed calls for stronger protection of schools in rural areas, particularly in Nigeria’s North-West, where banditry remains widespread.
